When it comes to shipping out games to the world, no one takes their time more than Rockstar Games. The legendary gaming developers have made hit after hit, such as Bully, Red Dead Redemption, and one of the biggest gaming franchises ever, Grand Theft Auto. GTA in its entirety has sold around 315 million copies, which is just short of the sales of Pokémon, Tetris, and the Mario Series.

The latest GTA game is GTA V, which initially released in 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, then was re-released in 2014 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It was then released for PC in 2015. Like all other GTA games, GTA V is massive; an open-world game set in a fictional Los Angeles that allows you to do almost anything- Drive, Kill, Rob, Fight, Drink, etc. It has a story mode along with an online mode where you can create your own character. Since 2013, the game has sold over 130 million copes alone, cementing it as one of the most popular modern-day games of all time.

Keep in mind it came out seven years ago. The time gap from GTA IV to GTA V was 5 years. Surely Rockstar must be hard at work on the next game in the series, right?

Unfortunately, that might not be the case. It was announced a few months back that GTA 5 will be ported AGAIN, this time to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 in 2021. The game itself has received content updates over the past 7 years, providing new missions, weapons, cars, and anything in-between.

So when will GTA VI eventually come out? Unfortunately, there’s no real idea. Rockstar’s idea of porting GTA V to each new system since 2013 with enhanced visuals and features seems lazy, but has still made the company billions of dollars in sales. The game is also still very active on streaming services like Twitch and YouTube. To say the game is still alive in the gaming community is an understatement.

Rockstar might believe that there’s no need to make another game right now when their current one is still making profit, and it will make more profit when it re-releases on the Series X and PS5. For the hardcore fans of the GTA series, it might be at least two, three, or even four years before GTA VI comes out, and that’s a hard and unfortunate reality check.
