Follow Up: The Effect of Halo Infinite Being Delayed (Blog 13)

The Xbox Series X has been released, and those who managed to get their hands on it have mainly given the console a high rating. The console is powerful, and it loads games faster, supports 120 frames per second, and supports native 4K, ray trading, and HDR. That said, the criticism that many have on the console is that is didn’t launch with many Xbox Series X exclusives, as many games on its lineup are still months away.

THE Xbox Series X game that should have launched with the Xbox was Halo Infinite. The defining gaming series of the Xbox Brand, Halo has sold more copies than any other console exclusive in Xbox history, and Halo Infinite was expected to be the main console seller for the Series X. It was meant to release on November 10th alongside the console, but it’s been delayed to an unknown date in 2021.

When gameplay for Halo Infinite was first unveiled months ago, it was criticized for a “lack of polish.” The game looked graphically unfinished considering the hardware it was running on. So, 343 Industries (The creators of Halo Infinite) have pushed back the game to fix fan complaints. There hasn’t been any updates on a potential release date.

Even without Halo, the Xbox Series X has sold surprisingly well. Microsoft themselves have said it’s the fastest-selling console in their history. The console was sold out minutes after it launched online on November 10th. As mentioned earlier, it’s received positive reviews, but a lack of a marquee game has hindered the need for the console now. Overall, the lack of Halo Infinite hasn’t been as horrific to the sales of the Series X as people had originally thought.

Regardless, whenever Halo Infinite does come out, people still expect there to be another massive surge of sales for the console. There will most likely be bundles of both the console and the game, and its a perfect deal for those who mainly play on Xbox for Halo. For now, backwards compatibility and the hardware itself are carrying the success of the Xbox, but a game like Halo will push sales to new heights.
